Harties Events - family weekend entertainment and accommodation

The Hartbeespoort area – affectionately known as “Harties” - has definitely grown in popularity over the last few years, and has become a name that is synonymous with fun, relaxation, and entertainment. With a host of activities and events available for all age groups, genders, and budgets – Harties is definitely the weekend venue of choice for families and singles alike.

Although the weekend is definitely the time that most people have available to enjoy the outdoors, there are activities that are available all week as well – including spectacular hot-air ballooning, canopy tours, bridge swinging, abseiling, horse or elephant riding, golfing, boating, river-rafting, and caving. In addition, the Harties area also includes points of interest such as flea markets, an aquarium, a crocodile farm, cheese and strawberry farms, art galleries, live music venues and restaurants.

Harties also offers world-class facilities and accommodation at many hotels, guesthouses and self-catering cottages – making the area a favourite for weddings, parties, and weekends away. Various self-catering cottages – such as Harry’s Getaway, which has fully-equipped, stylishly decorated self-catering cottages with spectacular views of the Magaliesberg mountain range as well as Hartbeespoort dam – from which you can base yourself while enjoying the numerous events and activities that Harties has to offer.

Hot air ballooning
There are a number of companies that offer hot air ballooning in and around Harties. Opt for a dawn trip – and watch the sunrise, drenching the mountains in sunlight while you watch from your balloon hundreds of meters above.

Canopy tours
One of South Africa’s fastest growing eco-adventures, a canopy tour will take you sliding over a gorge from one platform to the next along a series of steel cables, until you reach the base of the gorge, hundreds of meters below.

Elephant and horse rides
The Elephant Sanctuary offers a safe haven for elephants – and in so doing, allows the public access to these magnificent creatures. In addition to guest education and enlightenment; the Elephant Sanctuary allows for interaction with the elephants, including the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of riding an elephant.

If you would prefer horses to elephants, there are some spectacular horse trails that will lead you through the most stunning surroundings.

Caving
Crawling through small spaces in the cold bowels of the earth may not be everyone’s ideal weekend activity – but with the vast underground network of caves beneath the Harties and Magalies areas, there are caves so large that even the most claustrophobic of guests will be able to wonder at the cave formations that have taken thousands of years to form.

River-rafting
Adrenaline-pumping and physical, river-rafting is always sure to be enthralling. With various options available – from beginner to expert – river-rafting in the beautiful Harties area is always enjoyable.

These are just a few of the many activities that are available in the Harties area – with many more hidden gems of entertainment to find the longer you are able to immerse yourself in the area. It is definitely a great idea to book accommodation for the weekend – so that each day can be enjoyed to its fullest!
